Yesterday, the Southern Illinoisan published an op-ed from Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti on the state’s actions to address the opioid epidemic in Illinois. As co-chair of the Governor’s Opioid Overdose Prevention and Intervention Task Force, Sanguinetti has traveled the state and worked hand-in-hand with local communities to help win this fight.
Today, more Americans die from drug overdoses than breast cancer. In 2016, more than 2,100 Illinois residents died from opioid overdoses, twice the number killed in car accidents. We can’t just sit back and allow this epidemic to continue claiming lives. Illinois is taking action.
